Who Are we?
Pig and Whistle, Cartmel
The Pig and Whistle is a cosy and welcoming Robinsons pub based in the beautiful village of Cartmel in the Lake District - famous for it's stunning priory, Cartmel Racecourse and of course Sticky Toffee Pudding! We are proud to have a wonderful local following as well as welcoming people from all over the country and oftentimes the world. Serving pub grub with a 'Pig and Whistle' twist, delicious cocktails and a great range of beers, spirits and wines - there's truly something for everyone. We have a fantastic outside area accessed through the pub with plenty of uncovered seating with views over the field and some of the best sunset views around. We also have a large covered area lovingly named 'The Pig Pen', with sofas, benches, an outdoor bar and a pool table available for your use free of charge.

Our Story
Our journey started back in 2023 when a few of Deans customers at his place of work mentioned that Robinsons were looking for new tenants for the Pig and Whistle in Cartmel. Curious, Dean and myself looked into it and before we knew it we were setting up a meeting with a business development manager, sharing menu ideas and drafting up a business plan. We had always had a shared ambition to one day run something as our own - perhaps a restaurant - but until this moment we had truly never considered taking on a pub! We put many days and many nights into it and much to our delight, out of a number of potential tenants - us, first timers were selected! Having the backing of Robinsons and their belief that we were what the pub needed was a massive boost and with Deans experience in hospitality and my experience in Graphic Design and Marketing, we had a lot of ideas!
Fast forward to March of 2024, we left our home in nearby Ulverston with nine month old Arlo in tow and were officially handed the keys to our very first business and pub. The last year and a half has been everything we anticipated and then some. Challenging, enlightening, impossible, frustrating, wonderful, exciting and memorable. The support from the locals and tourists has been beyond what we could have expected, and thankfully our hard work paid off in securing much needed investment from Robinsons Brewery for a full refurbishment due to be completed December 2025, allowing us to take the business and our ideas to where we want them to be. We cannot wait to get stuck in as we go into 2026 as soon to be parents of two (we don't do things by halves) and look forward to the many adventures ahead. We hope you will join us all for the ride and support us in what is a delicate and challenging time in the hospitality industry and beyond.

Special thanks to our wonderful family and friends for allowing us to embark on this venture and supporting us through all the ups and downs and the support of the gang at Robinsons, without which none of this would have been possible.
